If anyone owns a copy of the eBook, paperback, or audiobook version of my book, The Beta Male Revolution, you already know that the period between 1960 – 1974 had a profound impact on the dating scene in society and intersexual dynamics between men and women.
How has dating & relationships evolved beginning with the decade between 1960 – 1969 thru 2010 – 2019? Let’s examine.
1960 – 1969: WOMEN BECOME SEXUALLY LIBERATED and THE LINE BETWEEN ‘GOOD GIRLS’ & ‘KINKY SLUTS’ BECOMES VERY BLURRED
Since I already mentioned my book, The Beta Male Revolution, I really do not have to say much about this decade that you do not already know about.
This decade introduced the birth control pill, which made it very easy for women to feel more comfortable engaging in sexual activities with men outside the context of marriage. Also, this decade saw a push for “free love” otherwise labeled “The Sexual Revolution” where premarital sex, group sex, polyamorous sex for ‘swingers,’ Gay & Lesbian sex, and short-term non-monogamous ‘casual’ sex slowly but surely began to become more normalized and common place.
The Second Wave of Feminism shifted into high gear because women had grown tired of their fathers and/or husbands treating them like “owned property,” and they wanted to have the same income-earning potential as men.
The end result of this decade was that women could no longer be placed very conveniently into the two categories of “prudish, strictly monogamy oriented good girls” and “kinky, highly promiscuous sluts.” Instead, there were a growing number of women who would validly fall somewhere in the middle of those two extremes.
1970 – 1979: ABORTION IS LEGALIZED and THE POPULARITY OF PORN INCREASES DRAMATICALLY
Not too much was more groundbreaking during this decade then the legendary Roe vs. Wade U.S. Supreme Court case that ultimately caused abortion to become legalized.
This decade also witnessed the prominent emergence of strip clubs and strippers, magazines and movies that featured nudity and pornography with Playboy magazine, Penthouse magazine, and Hustler magazine being the most popular of the magazine genre and Behind the Green Door, Deep Throat, The Devil in Miss Jones, and The Opening of Misty Beethoven being the most talked about of the feature-length porn films.
This decade saw a lot of women beginning to engage in sexual activities as early as high school, and even as early as middle school. Many young girls were beginning to have out-of-wedlock child births creating the first major generation of “Baby Mamas” and “Baby Daddies.”
The polyamorous concept of “swinging” and “couple-swapping” became increasingly popular during the 1970s.
1980 – 1989: THE EMERGENCE OF THE MATERIALISTIC GOLD DIGGERS and STDs & HIV / AIDS CAUSES MANY TO BECOME WARY OF UNPROTECTED SEX
There have always been a percentage of women in society who were labeled “social climbers,” “status seekers,” and/or “gold diggers,” but arguably no decade witnessed a high prevalence of women in this category more than the 1980s.
Not only were there many women who operated as street prostitutes, professional Call Girls, and upscale Erotic Escorts in the 1980s, but there were a number of women who operated as “covert whores” (a materialistic status seeker and/or gold digger who exchanges her sexual companionship with men for long-term financial provision or short-term financial compensation = a “covert whore” or “Sugar Baby”).
One factor that seemed to disrupt the free-spirited and uninhibited ways of the on-going ‘Sexual Revolution’ that begun in the mid-to-late 1960s was an increase in cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and more specifically, the rise of HIV / AIDs cases.
Consequently, in the latter half of the decade, many heterosexual & bisexual men and women found themselves becoming very paranoid about the prospect of engaging in unprotected sex with members of the same sex, members of the opposite sex, or both.
1990 – 1999: THE ERA OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT CHARGES AGAINST MEN & DATE RAPE CHARGES AGAINST MEN EARNS MAINSTREAM NEWS COVERAGE
This decade saw men face two fairly new major threats to their carefree attitude regarding sex outside the context of marriage: 1) charges of sexual harassment (particularly in the professional workplace) and 2) charges (valid or invalid) of a form of sexual assault known as “acquaintance-rape” or even more commonly, “date-rape”
There was a time when many men who worked with women could get away with a quick pinch or slap on the buttocks of a woman who was their secretary or some other similar subordinate in their workplace (in the Entertainment Industry, a popular concept was known as “the casting couch” where aspiring actresses and models were expected to exchange their sexual companionship for potential career-enhancing opportunities), but because of the Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas vs. Anita Hill incident, instances of workplace sexual harassment got catapulted to the forefront.
Even more threatening to men’s casual sex habits was the new threat of a potential “date-rape” charge. For example, in the 1970s and most of the 1980s, a man could get away with having sex with a woman who was completely inebriated (i.e., drunk) and/or had drugs in her system without penalty or consequence. Beginning with around 1989 or 1990, that all changed. Women began accusing men of “rape by a familiar acquaintance of mine” otherwise nicknamed “date-rape,” and women began charging men with being inappropriately “taken advantage of” in those instances where sex took place while a woman had drugs and/or alcohol in her system, or she felt physically “forced” or “pressured” by a familiar male acquaintance to engage in sexual activities with that man.
2000 – 2009: THE INTRODUCTION OF ONLINE DATING and THE EMERGENCE OF THE ATTRACTION & SEDUCTION INDUSTRY a.k.a. THE PICKUP ARTIST (PUA) COMMUNITY
In regard to men and women’s dating habits, and sexual practices, the first decade of the New Millennium will always be associated with the rising popularity of online matchmaking websites and online dating in general, where single men and women were no longer limited by the boundaries of geography, and could easily flirt with members of the opposite sex who lived in another city than themselves, another state than themselves, or an entirely different country or region than themselves. Dating was now officially “global” in nature.
Along with online dating, many single heterosexual men began seeking knowledge, wisdom, insight, and general advice from other men via the internet on how to get better at attracting and seducing women, with particular interest in learning how to “game women” to motivate women to engage in one or more episodes of short-term non-monogamous ‘casual’ sex with them. This led to the emergence of what is known as The Attraction & Seduction Industry, or less formally known simply as “The Pickup Artist (PUA) Community” or “The Seduction Community.”
After the popularity of Neil Strauss’ groundbreaking book titled The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists was published in 2005, literally hundreds if not thousands of men began marketing themselves as some sort of “relationship guru” or “seduction guru” or “dating coach,” with some of these men earning six figure salaries, and in some cases, seven figure yearly earnings.
2010 – 2019: THE EMERGENCE OF THE MGTOW & RED PILL COMMUNITY and THE #MeToo and #TimesUp MOVEMENTS
As many could have predicted, a lot of the men who followed popular PUAs between 2000 and 2009 found themselves still feeling unsuccessful with women, and perpetually romantically and sexually frustrated. To add on to these feelings of frustration were married men’s growing frustration with divorce expense issues and child custody issues, causing many divorced men to warn their male friends and acquaintances, “Never get married. It’s not worth it!”
Enter MGTOW and MRA. These two men’s groups are similar in some ways, yet at the same time, totally different.
MGTOW is many heterosexual men’s response to being manipulated by women for financial and non-financial favors, and generally exploited by women for their own self-serving objectives. One disturbing sub-faction of MGTOW has come to be known as “incels,” which centers on men who are either virgins or very sexually inexperienced, and who feel very angry, bitter, and resentful toward women because they feel completely ignored and/or rejected by women and have been made to feel unwanted and undesirable. Some of those from the incel faction have turned to homicide and/or suicide, most notably a young man in California named Elliot Rodger.
Many other MGTOW enthusiasts still pursue women for casual sex encounters but are totally against the idea of monogamous marriages or any other sort of long-term, strictly monogamous romantic relationships with women. Many MGTOW types prefer to remain confirmed bachelors for the remainder of their adult life in response to women who they perceive as being highly manipulative and materialistic and/or subscribers to radical feminism.
MRA (also known as “MRM”) on the other hand addresses issues such as fair and balanced divorce proceedings, fair and balanced child custody hearings, and just generally preventing men from being treated disrespectfully or unfairly by the mainstream media and many employers.
The “Red Pill” Community has also emerged as a growing force and heterosexual men’s watchdog group. One of the leaders in this area is a man who uses the pseudonym, Rollo Tomassi, and he is the author of the very popular book, The Rational Male in addition to his many subsequent books.
Also, referencing the aforementioned proverbial “casting couch” phenomenon that took place for decades in the Media and Entertainment industries, many women in both industries and other industries began speaking out about incidences of rape, date-rape, inappropriate groping and men exposing their genitals to them in an uninvited manner, and various forms of sexual assault, sexual misconduct, and sexual harassment under the popular #MeToo Movement and the similar #TimesUp Movement.
Many men who were once considered powerful, wealthy, influential, and untouchable were suddenly forced to resign or fired, and their image and reputations suffered a major blow.
WHAT IS AHEAD IN THE NEXT DECADE (2020 – 2029)?
Beginning with January 1, 2020 … what new changes will we witness related to the dating and relationship habits of heterosexual men and women? What new “threats” will men face? What new movements or organizations will emerge?
We shall see!! Should be a more than interesting decade.
