We’ve both volunteered to serve this country, preserving all of its 1st Amendment Rights to all of its citizens.
Not some. Not most. All of them.
So, whether we’re rich or poor, all United States citizens have the right—no, the responsibility to actively express their freedom of speech via protest. This is something worth preserving, worth protecting.
See, this whole thing begun back in 2016, when a professional athlete, NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, decided enough of the bullsh*t and started to kneel during the National Anthem before the start of each game. He was protesting the police unjustly gunning down unarmed Black Americans.
Did most people empathize? Sure.
How about them publicaly showing support? Okay, a lot of them did but only for a while.
Meanwhile, in the majority of the officer-involved homicides with African Americans across the country, it’s been the same end result of cops being placed on a two-week administrative leave with pay; however, never a one of them being prosecuted. Not even when they’re caught on live video!
What did Americans expect
Just what kind of reaction did Americans expect? When it’s wholesale murder of unarmed Black people within the Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.
I’m surprised it’s not complete anarchy by now. No, I’m dead serious.
Yeah, now all of a sudden, it no longer fits their narrative. It’s supposingly unpatriotic, even disrespectful toward Old Glory and veterans like my baby girl and I when individuals refuse to stand during the National Anthem.

Look, if some people believe that gangster rap songs are laced with hate and violence, especially upon the impressionable minds of children, what’s so different when other people think songs during slavery are just as harmful to themselves as well? Conversely, when world heavy weight boxing champion Muhammad Ali exercised his right to protest, by refusing to participate in that same war, he received hell on Earth from many Americans.
However, fast forward a few decades, now today’s flag-waving sports fans somehow revere the former Cassius Clay turned Muslim, activist and philanthropist as an icon to be respected. They can’t cheer him on enough.
Who knows? Perhaps in 30 to 40 years, Kaepernick will receive the same love as the late Ali does today.
Even now, we have Kareem Abdul Jabbar, a living legend, speaking his mind on this ongoing topic. Recently, the retire NBA giant let everyone know that he’s not down with just sitting back remaining silent.
Some will call it a political move. I call it concerned Americans wanting equal justice.
Right to protest
And now, this stand your ground attitude the NFL has towards “showing respect for the National Anthem” is beginning to get costly. Just how long will it take until they realize it’s a bad financial move?
It’s only preseason, and players are already showing the world that they’re standing their ground, too! I’m so proud of them for doing this.
What’s the real deal with my country? Why is it so rigid to change?
Could it be that our demographics are finally catching up to the rest of the world?
