“Chivalry is dead; women killed it!”
-Dave Chappelle
At a time of steadily decreasing reasons as to why any man in our time should bother with old-fashioned “courting” comes yet another tale of Women Behaving Badly – and just in time for the 2017 summer movie season, no less.
By now, you may be familiar with what I am referring to. Last month, a story emerged out of the Lone Star State, where Brandon Vezmar took out Crystal Cruz to checkout the recently released “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2”, the followup to Marvel’s flick of the same name a few years back. Indeed, millions of couples-to-be still engage in this relic of “first date nights” out across the country – dinner and a movie. How quaint.
Well, things quickly took a turn for the worse when Crystal decides to act a fool – constantly texting and using her smartphone while the film is in progress. (Great – so, as if her idiotic behavior inflicted on Brandon wasn’t bad enough, everyone else in the move house has to endure her being a butthead too, right?) After repeated requests by Brandon to knock it off, Crystal ups and leaves – and since Crystal was Brandon’s ride to the theater in the first place, leaves him stranded in the process.
What makes this “bad date night” so out-of-the-ordinary however, is what Brandon decided to do afterwards – he filed a lawsuit demanding he get his money back, as well as making lots of noise via social media. As the Michigan Chronicle reports, his efforts proved effective – Cruz acceded to Vezmar’s demands and refunded the money he spent on an ill-fated night out.
Now, some reading along may think that what Vezmar did was a bit over the top, possibly even petty – not to be outdone, Harris O’Malley, better known in some nauseatingly progressive circles as “Doctor Nerdlove”, a self-styled dating coach for the nerdy crowd – argues that Vezmar is a walking-talking exemplar for why (White) women cringe in horror when asked out on a date – but consider the following:
1. A podcast I did sometime back covering what are known as “dinner whores” – women who use online dating services like Match.com and OKCupid to get unsuspecting dates to take them out only for the purposes of getting expensive dinners from them
2. Here’s this instance of yet another Woman Behaving Badly, who’s antics were so incredibly outrageous that not even being called out publicly on morning drive radio wasn’t enough to elicit her contrition
3. And here’s yet another story out of NYC where a woman uses Tinder for her personal handyman service
4. Over at men’s lifestyle website Return of Kings, is a story about how women are now CHARGING MEN TO TALK TO THEM ON Tinder and associated dating apps and websites; so much for the idea that the best things in life are free, huh?
While there are numerous social media outlets specifically designed to lamet, excoriate, mock and shame the boorish behavior of men along these lines – Bye Felipe easily comes to mind – somehow, in the minds of obsequious Uncle Tims like O’Malley, men are simply supposed to endure the unending torrent of slights, disses and downright asshole behavior from women, in gentlemanly silence – or perhaps better yet, to go whine about it to his friends over beers at the local taproom.
The simple truth is that there’s a reason why Tupac so famously said “that’s why they call you bitch” – because there are so many women LIKE Crystal Cruz today. The idea that men are supposed to remain frozen in the amber of the past, ever the gentlemen in the face of an increasingly nasty horde of female humanity, is something only the most sardonic of ironies could appreciate.
Men, regardless as to their own individual behavior dating or otherwise, are under a constant barrage of examination, critique, assault and insult about the faux pas of men writ large – not only are they to listen and solemnly do the “Oprah Nod” at the knee of a finger-wagging Sisterhood, but they are to take special time out of their day to upbraid their fellows as well, chiding them to “be better”. But when women act an utter fool, we are all just supposed to grin and bear it – or perhaps better yet, chalk up their insufferable actions due to their being so grievously mistreated by a patriarchal society or some such.
BUNK.
As I said in my recent interview with Rollo Tomassi of “The Rational Male” fame on my live talk radio show, I wholeheartedly support Vezmar’s actions; yes, they may indeed be a bit extreme – but desperate times call for desperate measures. Vezmar is no dudebro suffering from “male entitlement”, as O’Malley weakly argues, but rather, emblematic of a boiling point that so many men feel – that we’re simply not gonna take the bad behaviors laying down anymore. We know how to use social media, too – and if a woman or women, don’t know how to act, we are more than happy to oblige by putting their ill-repute behaviors on blast (and taking their behinds to court too, if necessary). No, it won’t always work – as the “MGTOW 101” case alluded to above makes clear – but it WILL finally lift the voices of men nationwide:
We’re mad as hell, and we’re not gonna take it anymore.
In an age where anyone with a smartphone can hang out a shingle and proclaim themselves an “expert” on anything (I’m looking at you, O’Malley), I have always shied away from telling men writ large what they “should” or “should not” do. For me, it is up to each and every man to decide for himself what he will do with his time and dime – if a man, or group of men, decides that going the Happy Days route is the way to go for him/them, more power to ’em. But, I think the argument made in today’s column is clear – to continue a truly antiquated ritual such as dating women in the 21st century, amidst an increasingly callous attitudinal norm among women in the aggregate, is not just a waste of time and money; it’s downright foolish, too. And I haven’t even touched on the dual mating strategy far-too-many women employ today, in an in-your-face fashion at that. Given all these and many other facts of our time, the case speaks for itself, dontcha think?
Thank you, Brandon, for taking a stand!
