Politics, in Nigeria, is just a repetition of stupidity. Politicians will come and campaign. They will make promises that they will do this and that. When they get elected, they will forget about their promises and do whatever they want. They will loot the people who elected them. Then, after four years, they will come again and make the same promises they have made earlier. They will humble themselves. They will go to local restaurants to eat. They will help the market woman to roast maize. They will clean gutters with labourers. They will bring themselves so low, just to achieve their aims.

It is only when these useless politicians are campaigning that they will remember Nigerians. It is then that they will promise to clean your ass after defecation. It is then they will tell Nigerians that they will lick the sweat off their bodies. They will promise jobs. They will share free money. But, that doesn’t mean they love you. They are only doing all these things so that they can get your votes. In 2015, Muhammadu Buhari promised Nigerians heaven and earth. He said he would put an end to Boko Haram in Nigeria. And that he would pay Nigerian unemployed graduates some amount of money, monthly.

He promised everything. Nigerians thought their Messiah has arrived. He raised our hopes. We believed in him too much. Most of us thought Nigeria would become a paradise when Buhari becomes the president. We were wrong. In Buhari, we got disappointment. We were disappointed beyond imagination. The Messiah we thought has arrived couldn’t even save anyone. We should have believed in God. Buhari is a good example that you should never trust a Nigerian politician too much, because you will always get disappointed. They are all the same. Bastards!

I loved Buhari. He seemed to me like someone who knew what he was doing. Until recently. Now, it is apparent that Buhari is confused. Does it mean Nigeria is too big to be ruled by Buhari? Or that we can’t trust him to lead us to the promised land. He has disappointed many of the people who, through their efforts, brought him to power. Here are some of the prominent names that helped send Buhari to Aso Rock: Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Fela Durotoye, Atiku Abubakar, Omoyele Sowore, Donald Duke, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Charles Soludo, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Pastor Sunday Adelaja, Father Ejike Mbaka, Yemi Osibanjo, Professor Tam David West, Professor Wole Soyinka, Rev. Chris Okotie, many others.

These people mentioned above actually believed that Buhari had what it takes to lead Nigeria into a first world. These people went to school. Many are professors. Some claimed to have direct access to God. Some are gifted with prophesies. They read history. They understood international relations. They understood how societies work or so we thought. They were more than 20 years old in 1983 when Buhari shot himself to power. They saw Buhari murder innocent Nigerians in 1983. They saw Buhari destroy the economy in 1983. They saw the role Buhari played in Abacha’s government.

They read all the threats of violence by Buhari against the nation. Even in 2015, Buhari said he will make Nigeria ungovernable for Goodluck Jonathan if he didn’t become president. They saw Buhari harras Lam Adesina, former Oyo State Governor, because of Fulani herdsmen. They saw Buhari led the sharia protest that claimed the lives of innocent Nigerians in 2001. They saw everything this man did. They knew him too well to miss the little details of his violent life. But they were united in hatred. Perhaps hatred for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. One among the few Nigerian leaders who actually wanted Nigeria to work.

They exploited his humility. They exploited his kindness. They danced and made merry in Ojota. They mobilised thugs to stone a sitting president. They harassed his family wherever they went. It is not that I love Jonathan or that I have gained anything from him, or that I am one of his supporters, but our hypocrisy in Nigeria reaches to the heavens. If WAEC issued fake WAEC attestation to Buhari, it is very possible many Nigerian intellectuals are working with fake certificates. The tragedy of a people! The tragedy of a country! In Nigeria, when one problem is being tackled, another surfaces. Nigerians, be wise. As 2019 approaches, don’t vote for looters. Vote for those who will bring development to this country.
