The fact that a person can die from eating too much food is an usual thought. However, this is a reality. I’m sure someone you know, or you heard of, has lost their life because of eating too much food. Understand that when you are obese, especially morbidly obese, food is your drug. Food is a mechanism for you to cope with the stresses of life. Life is indeed stressful, and everyone copes with stress in their own way. Some people can handle stress quite well, while for others it can be debilitating.
When I was obese, the one thing I did whenever I felt good, or bad, was turn to food. Food is very neutral. It is neither good, nor bad. We certainly need it to keep us alive, however, when we abuse it, it can lead to our demise. Food is something that I thoroughly enjoy. In fact, other than the gym, food is the highlight of my day. When I eat food I feel amazing. Especially when I eat foods that are sugary and savory. If you are morbidly obese I’m sure that you get the same feelings I do when you eat food. At my highest weight I was 434 lbs. Today, I am proud to say that I weigh 230 lbs and I am still losing weight.
If you are morbidly obese I want you to know that food is your battle. In fact, at this juncture in your life food is the only battle that you need to be focused on fighting. It’s not exercising more, it’s controlling what you eat. Understand that no amount of exercise in the world will help you reverse your obesity. You must change your diet. You must consume less calories. I want to help you do that, but first you have to want to do it. Do you know why morbidly obese people eat themselves to death? It’s because somewhere along the line they gave up. In their mind, they rationalized that the amount of work it would take for them to lose a great deal of weight would be too much. Therefore, they lost the battle mentally, and unfortunately the physical was sure to follow.
Often times, we can get into states of extreme depression and sadness. The mind is powerful. I don’t just say that, I truly believe it. We have the ability to accomplish amazing things, but we are limited in our mind. Every morbidly obese person can lose weight if they desire. It comes down to what are you willing to give up to lose the weight? Are you willing to give up being sedentary? Are you willing to give up eating whatever you want whenever you want? If so, that is all you need to begin the weight loss process. The battle starts in your mind. I firmly believe that. If you can convince the mind then the body will follow. Currently, I am preparing for a bodybuilding contest. Do you know what the scariest thought was for me? It was the grueling workouts, or the extreme cardio. It was the fact that I knew I was going to have to be stricter on my diet. I can tell you that 3 days into prep and all of the anxiousness has subsided. The first day was the hardest. There were times when I was starving, but I did not cheat on my diet, and my body has began to reward me for it. Your body will reward you too! Only if you stick to the plan. When we deviate from the plan laid before us we can get into a lot of trouble.
Morbid obesity will end your life early. It has been proven time and time again. The more fat you have on your body, especially visceral fat, the more at risk you are for health complications. The more health complications you experience the more likely you are to die from anyone of those health related complications. Most are well aware that morbid obesity damages you physically, but did you also know that it can damage you mentally as well? More often than not, people who are morbidly obese also suffer from depression in some form or fashion. Whether it be depression due to being morbidly obese, or the depression that led to the obesity. It could even be a combination of both.
I’ve talked to people who became depressed from the loss of a loved one and they turned to food as a place of comfort. Many have been hurt in past relationships and they used food as a tool to make them feel better when they were feeling down. I became obese due to over eating, which was caused by stressful situations. The stressful contributing factors include, but are not limited to: college, marriage, finances, military, etc. Mentally, it was a lot on my plate, no pun intended. Therefore, I turned to what was always there: food.
Food is very easy to turn to you because you can eat as much of it as you like whenever you like. No one is going to arrest you for overeating. No one will write you a citation if you consume unhealthy foods. You are free to eat whatever food you enjoy and as much of it as you enjoy. However, your body will soon begin to write you citations. These citations come in the form of your clothes not fitting, it being more difficult for you to do basic fictions, you feeling lethargic, etc. And your body will even arrest you. These arrest come in the form of high blood pressure, diabetes, bad cholesterol, bad blood plasma levels, heart attacks, stroke, medication, etc.
And for obese people the recidivism rate is high. If you were arrested before, it’s a god chance you will be arrested again for the same behavior. This means that if you have high blood pressure, that will eventually lead to a heart attack, which will lead to medication that you may have to be on for the rest of your life. If you are morbidly obese and about to die then you need to seek help. Help will not come to you. Your first step at searching for help was reading this article. Now, it’s time to do more. Talk with your doctor and get a plan of action for you to follow. After that, I implore you to reach out to someone who has been through your same situation and lived to talk about it. I would love to chat with you, and even make you a personalized training program that is suited just for you and will help you begin to regain control of your health and happiness. Act now, before it’s too late.
