Nigerian Christians’ body calls for prayer for sick President

by Idris Sulaiman

The body of Nigerian Christians, Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN is calling for prayer for the quick and full recovery of the sick President Muhammadu Buhari and his safe return to the country rather than dwelling on the needless rumour mongering on the President’s health.

The President has been in London since January 19 where he had gone to spend his ten day leave and also undergo his routine medical check up.

But there have been fears about the state of his health since he left the shore of Nigeria. His failure to return at the end of the ten day leave on February 6 fuelled anxiety and speculation at home that he might be in bad shape.

But the Christians’ umbrella body said it was deeply deeply concerned about the ongoing national conversation on the absence of the President due to ill- health.

CAN in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its Director of Legal and Public Affairs, Evangelist Kwamkur Samuel, urged Nigerians to also display understanding in their desire to hear the President speak to them.

It however called on the Presidency to update Nigerians on how President Buhari is faring and the full progress of his recovery.

The statement reads: “We wish to call on all Nigerians to join hands in prayers for the quick and full recovery of Mr. President and his safe return to Nigeria instead of dwelling on the needless rumour mongering on the President’s health.

CAN also call on Nigerians to give the Vice President who is also the Acting President full support and prayers to lead well.

We acknowledge that government is a continuum, hence, we call on Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to be bold in handling critical State matters and not to be distracted by those who do not wish Nigeria well”.
