Let’s break down some of the worst Grammy fails of all time while trying to find out top 5 deceptions regarding the Awards.
5) J.J. Fadd receiving a nomination for Best Rap Performance
J.J. Fadd, one of Hip Hop’s biggest mysteries managed to land with a Grammy nomination for Best Rap performance in 1989, the first year when rap music was recognized by the Grammy Awards.
Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, and N.W.A were snubbed by the Awards committee that decided J.J. Fadd had a more solid impact on the culture. We’re talking about the same year that N.W.A. dropped Straight Outta Compton here.
4) Milli Vanilli Winning Best New Artist
Yes sir, that’s right! Milli Vanilli, one of the strangest duos in music history, won a Grammy in 1990. Not only was the music they claimed bad in general, it wasn’t even their music in the first place. Yet somehow the lip-sync duo (that fail miserably) won a Grammy right in the beginning of their “career”.
Not just any award but for Best New Artist. Meaning that somehow, the Grammy people saw them as great talents that will ultimately make a great impact in the music scene. That was not the case. At all.
3) Christopher Cross winning against Pink Floyd
Does anyone remember Christopher Cross? Good. Well, somehow in 1981 Christopher Cross managed to win not one but four awards for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best New Artist.
That’s not it, because Christopher managed to snub legendary Rock band Pink Floyd on his path to winning his four awards. Doesn’t really make sense.
2) Toto wining against Billy Joel and Paul McCartney
Somehow in 1983, the Grammy jury considered that a band named after Dorothy’s mutt in The Wizard of Oz had more potential than what later on would become Pop icons Billy Joel and Paul McCartney.
Toto won Album and Record of the Year while Billy Joel and Paul McCartney got snubbed. Obviously, the band is bye-bye nowadays and no one remembers them.
1) Every Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga outfit on the red carpet
It seems like inviting Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry or Lady Gaga to the Grammys is an absolute failure fest. Not only will they show up wearing the weirdest and senseless outfits a chick can wear, but they will also act like they’re too good for everyone else that doesn’t understand what the hell they’re trying to prove.
Anyway, see these three lunatics walking on the red carpet makes the Grammys look like your third grade Halloween costume contest.
